SUPPLY OF DESALINATION UNITS FOR PSERIMOS AND TELENDOS ISLANDS.
Description
Pserimos and Telendos are two islands in the Dodecanese, facing serious water deficiency. Pserimos covers its drinking and irrigation needs from its groundwater bodies, which however are considered to be of bad quality and limited quantity, not always able to cover the island’s demands. Telendos’ water needs are covered by transporting water from the nearby island of Kalymnos through a connection pipe. However, damages and malfunctions of the system occur very often which result to water shortages. The project will enable the purchase and installation of two desalination units along with the entire necessary substructure with capacity of 100 m3/per day each, which will produce drinking water for the islands of Pserimos and Telendos. The supply of desalination units will improve the quality and increase the quantity of water, improving thus the quality of life for the residents and the visitors-tourists in both islands. The quality of water for both drinking and irrigation purposes of both islands will be improved. In addition, the ground waters of Kalymnos will be preserved and protected.
